11/09/2010 Denver, CO First Snow Fall

In Denver Colorado, Weather Paparazzi Tony Laubach reports that the first snow of the season fell across parts of the metro area on Tuesday, nearly 3 weeks after the average first snow date of October 19. However, the first snow fell 12 days shy of the November 21 record for the latest first snow.

Back in 2008, Denver missed the record by a week thanks to a November 14 first snow. Snowfall in Denver were generally under an inch and mostly on grassy surfaces. Areas south and west of Denver are under Winter Weather Advisories while the mountains west of the Continental Divide were under Winter Storm Warnings with up to a foot or more of snow possible through Wednesday.

In the video that Tony shot, it opens up with shots looking west at the foothills from Denver with low clouds and snow showers blocking some of the mountain views. Various shots follow including people walking int he snow sleet, POV driving shots, traffic shots, and various shots of snow on vehicles and grassy areas.

The snow mixed with rain and sleet, but then turned to giant snowflakes as temperatures cooled enough for the total changeover. Most of the accumulations were very light and remained on grassy surfaces due to the warm ground temps.

Video package includes various shots of heavy snow falling across northern Denver after the changeover. Shots of food delivery guys making runs and various shots of heavy falling snow. Ends with a squirrel on a tree.
