Southern IL Sinkhole & Major Flooding – 5/1/2017

Major flooding continues to unfold across southern IL leading to the closing of businesses and even sink holes. Overnight, Harrisburg city officials closed down the local Walmart and other businesses on the south side of town due to high water on the roads, and in Carbondale, the Dunkin Donuts and Subway were closed due to the parking lot collapsing in front of the establishments. Major flooding will continue through the week as area rivers continue to rise to near record levels.

Cool, cloudy, and windy conditions are in place, but the region will remain dry for a couple of days before the next round of rain and storms move in on Wednesday.
