7/6/2012 Lakewood, CO Street Flooding

From fire to flood; Colorado does a 180 after weeks of dry conditions lead to numerous destructive and deadly wildfires. Now, excessive rain has moved into the state putting a huge dent in the rain deficit, but unfortunately it could all come at once. With heavy rains expected through the weekend, Colorado shifts its concern from the fire threat to a flood threat.

Video package covers storms that developed over the Denver metro area early in the evening on Friday. Several areas of heavy storms developed, including over the west side of town in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. Here, Doppler radar estimated over an inch of rain fell in less than 30 minutes leading to minor street flooding of Union Blvd between Alameda Pkwy and 6th Avenue (US-6).

Scenes 1-2 include shots looking west toward the foothills from Denver as storms gather intensity. Scenes 3-4 include POV shots during the storm along C-470 approaching Alameda Parkway. Scenes 5-6 are POV shots approaching flood-scene along Union Blvd between Alameda and 6th Ave in Lakewood. Shots then include vehicles driving in the northbound lanes as water up to a foot in places slows traffic. Shots include cars and city buses driving through the high waters during the end of the rainstorm. Last few shots of people in the area, including two being soaked on a motor cycle, a couple shots of people under umbrellas during the deluge, and shots at the end of the storm as rain subsides.
