Severe storms hammer northern Kansas on Thursday bringing heavy rains, damaging winds, and some hail. Video package shot around the town of Norton, Kansas in Norton County (north of Wakenney).

Video package opens up with vivid lightning strikes as storms move across north Kansas. Various lightning and cloud shots. Transitions to shots during the storm of heavy rain and very strong winds. (two scenes accidentally repeated after cloud shots).

Package then sets up 2-minutes into video in Norton documenting a lot of the wind damage that occurred thanks to gusts over 70mph. Shots include several people moving part of a roof from a parking lot, people picking up tree branches, a semi truck that was blown well off the highway into a nearby field (yet remained upright). Other shots of tree and fence damage in Norton.

Drive of the semi was not injured, but said it was the ride of his life. He was westbound out of Norton when we was driven off the highway.

A supercell thunderstorm develops over southeast Colorado and literally sits still for nearly two hours dropping copious amounts of hail, reported up to 2-inches in diameter, and prompting several hours of severe thunderstorm warnings as the storm sat and dumped for nearly two hours.

Scenes 1-3 open as storm chaser approaches the severe-warned storm on US-160 just west of Pritchett. Shots of blinding dust shot from POV.

Scenes 4-5 are establishing shots of the storm a few miles north of Pritchett with vivid lightning strikes in both scenes.

Scene 6 includes high winds and rain with Pritchett city limits sign in the foreground.

Scene 7 is a shot of a ragged cloud over the town as the storm unleashes the hail to the north.

Scene 8 is a shot of a truck driving through Pritchett in the rain.

Scenes 9-15 are shots of hail falling several miles north of Pritchett. Hail up to golfball size falling in the nearby field looking like missiles coming down. Other shots of hail covering the ground as storm rages on.

Scene 16 is POV shot as storm ends with hail covering the roads and having to drive it previous ruts to move.

Scene 17 is shot of local sheriff coming up the hail covered road north of Pritchett.

Scene 18 is a shot of a vehicle on the hail covered road.

Scenes 19-22 include shot of hail covering the road like heavy snow.

Scene 23 includes a ruler stuck in the hail measuring it to a depth of 3-inches.

Secene 24-27 include shots of hail measured up to golfball size, hail against ruler, compared with golfball, held in hand.

Scene 28 is a shot of chaser holding golfball hail with the animated radar image in the background.

The High Point fire is burning west of Fort Collins Colorado in the residential areas of Paradise Park, Stove Prairie, and Buckhorn Canyon. Fire was last estimated at 3000 acres and continues to grow rapidly with the high temps and high wind in the area. Local temperature at the filming site was 97 degrees with a 20-25 mph wind from the South West. New evacuations have been ordered for Stove Prairie Road north along County Road 27 to Highway 14, east along Highway 14 to approximately mile marker 111, southeast to Rist Canyon Fire Station 1, then back west to to include Wilderness Ridge Way, Rist Creek Road, Spring Valley Road and County Road 41 and all of the roads that run off of it. 227 notifications (NOT HOMES) were sent for this area. A pre-evacuation alert was issued (5 notifications) for the Buckhorn Road between mile markers 25 and 27. As of this writing six structures have been confirmed lost to the fire. 5 Single Engine Air Tankers (SEAT); 2 Type 1 Helitankers; 2 Type 3 Helicopters; 2-4 Heavy Air Tankers; Air Attack; and Lead Plane are currently attacking the fire with ground crews.

Rope Tornado, Low Level Meso and wall cloud, Snow Plow moving hail, hail covered road and fog, storm structure.

Opening shot is the Elizabeth, CO tornado roping out followed by a very low level meso and wall cloud will screaming inflow. Next scene is a snow plow plowing hail off the road and then hail piled high on the road and fog reducing visibility. Last scene is some storm structure.
