Video Description
An Excessive Heat Warning went into effect today across the eastern half of Kansas, including the Greater Wichita Area, through Saturday evening. This is the first of several days where temperatures are expected to hit 100-degrees in Wichita with heat index values approaching 110. The extreme heat and humidity have buckled some roads across Kansas.
Today, Wednesday the 17th, was the first official 100-degree day in Wichita for the year, hitting 100 degrees at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport at 2:01pm with a recorded heat index of 108. The temperature topped out at 101 degrees later that afternoon. This is expected to continue through Saturday before a front moves in on Sunday with a cool down likely going into early next week.
