A woman was fatally shot Wednesday morning by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in a south Minneapolis neighborhood during a federal immigration enforcement operation, authorities said. The shooting occurred near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue as federal agents were conducting enforcement activity in the area. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded. Federal officials said the woman was inside a vehicle and that an ICE officer fired after she allegedly attempted to drive toward agents. The Department of Homeland Security said the officer acted in self-defense. The incident remains under investigation. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released, pending notification of family.
